Beautiful and rare, vintage early 1980s Sigma DR-41, top of the line Sigma model made in Japan for Martin. Features a solid Sitka spruce top, East Indian Rosewood back and sides, ivoroid binding and abalone inlays in the fretboard, around the soundhole, and around the body. Has the branded "football stamp" on the back brace identification, just like a Martin, only used for guitars built in Japan between 1980-83. A catalog page from that time states "Each Sigma instrument is individually inspected and adjusted by C.F. Martin craftsmen at our Nazareth(PA) plant" and shows the DR-41 as the most expensive model. The Sigma 1981 Price List shows the price of the DR-41 with deluxe case to be $588.00 - the equivalent of $2,066 in 2023! Being at least 40 years old has really "opened it up" the tone woods, & as a former Martin dealer I think it comes very close to American Martins in terms of sound/tone for much less money. Specs include the abalone inlays/purfling, gloss finish, gold sealed tuners with Sigma logo, mahogany neck, Rosewood fretboard, Martin-style original peghead-shape with binding and abalone logo, diamond-style volute, tortoise style pickguard, and Rosewood bridge. A strap button has been added at the heel, but otherwise no cracks or repairs. This 40+ year old is in very nice shape with not much play wear for its age. Frets have some wear on high E, B, G strings at the first 4 or 5 frets but there's no buzzing and overall they're in good shape. There's a small area of finish discoloration on the side of the upper bass bout and a few tiny indents/very light surface scratches, which you have to hold close in the light to see. There's some expected pick scratching on the pickguard. The back of the neck is in great shape. The string height of the low E at the 12th fret is about 3/32". comes with a newer used hardshell case in nice shape
very rare 1983 Guild D47-CE NT(gloss Natural finish) acoustic electric guitar. Built in Guild's Westerly, Rhode Island facility, this was part of Guild's Crossroad Series of acoustic electric guitars that had its own dedicated catalog. Based on Guild serial numbers, only 26 of these were made in 1983, the first year. It appears that possibly 21 were made in 1984 and 2 more in 1985 before the model was discontinued. The specs from the 1983 catalog: Length 42", Width 15 3/4", Depth 3 3/4", Top: Spruce(solid), Back, Sides, & Neck: Solid Mahogany, Fingerboard: Rosewood, Finish: High Gloss, Neck Width at Nut: 1 5/8", Scale Length: 24 3/4", 24 Electric Wide Frets, Pickup: TASS (Total Acoustic Sound System). The only Guild Acoustic dreadnought(?) model ever made with this combination of 24 frets, 24 3/4" scale, oval soundhole, and 3 3/4" depth. It was $799 in the 1984 Guild price list - according to the CPI index that would be well over $2,300 today! This 40 year old instrument is in very good vintage condition. There are some surface scratches/indents/imperfections most of which you have to turn in the light to see, and the obvious ding you see on the top near the bottom edge. There are no cracks or repairs and the electronics are in good working order. The original case shows some wear but, again, in very good condition
